Karmelitánské nakladatelství (Carmelite Publishing House)

Mission

Almost one and half thousand books on the theme of Christianity — that is the balance after eighteen years of activity at Karmelitánské nakladatelství.

KNA was established in 1991 with the idea of bringing the basic works of Carmelite spirituality, such as works of St Teresa of Ávila, St John of the Cross and St Thérese of Lisieux to Czech readers. Shortly thereafter, another collection under the name of „Spiritual Life,” was added, as well as other books from the fields of Biblical study, liturgy and poetry. These collections have become prestigious, as well as other books published by KNA—on homiletics, theology, spirituality, psychology and, to a lesser extent, pastoral work.

At the close of the ‘90s, new collections ensued, representing fine literature, memoirs, gift publications, calendars, and more. The scope of the publishing house expanded to include books devoted to children and young adults.

Distribution

At the beginning of the 1990s, KNA began to build its own distribution network which not only distributes its own titles, but also books by an overwhelming majority of Czech Christian publishers (along with many others). Today, readers can buy good books and since recently also monastery products such as liquers, tea, honey etc. in fifteen KNA stores and dozens of other bookstores all over the Czech Republic. Those who find it far to any of these can take advantage of our delivery service in Kostelní Vydří.

The Slovakian subsidiary in Bratislava was founded to bringing Slovak and Czech book, also through its distribution net, to Slovak readers. In addition, we have launched our Internet bookstore at www.ikarmel.cz and www.iencyklopedie.cz.

Karmelitánské nakladatelství publishes the works of many well-known and successful writers. Among foreign authors, John Paul II, Anselm Grün, Józef Augustyn, Wilfrid Stinissen, Raniero Cantalamessa and others have drawn great interest.
